The action of these publications is set in the fictional worlds of Azeroth and Draenor inhabited by humans, gnomes, elves, dwarves, trolls, orcs and many other fantastic races.

The story of this series of games based on the conflict between the armies of orcs and humans (Warcraft: Orcs & Humans) developed in the game Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness is a conflict between the Horde made up of orcs, trolls, ogres and goblins, and the Alliance made up of people elves, dwarves and gnomes. In later sections, the fighting also include night elves, tauren, undead, blood elves and draenei race. Here we can see a lot of references to the world of Warhammer Fantasy, Dungeons & Dragons, but most of all JRR Tolkien's novels, as many places in the game has the following language Sindarin.
